Back soon — production is restarting
The last batch sold out and the next one is being made. We would rather tell you that plainly than send you to a shop page with nothing on it. Leave an email address or a mobile number below and you will hear from us once, the moment they are back on sale.
Fasting before then? You do not need to wait for us — here is how to cover the same electrolytes yourself.
Tell me when they are back
One message, the day they return. No newsletter, no offers, nothing else.
What is in a daily dose
Spread across the day, stirred into water and sipped rather than downed. The pouch gives the exact directions.
| Per daily dose | Amount | Why it is there |
|---|---|---|
| Sodium | 4,000 mg | The mineral a fast loses fastest: with insulin low, the kidneys hold on to less of it. |
| Potassium | 2,000 mg | Potassium contributes to normal muscle function. |
| Magnesium | 400 mg | Magnesium contributes to electrolyte balance and to normal muscle function. |
| Thiamine (B1) | 100 mg | Thiamine contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism. |
Zero calories and no carbohydrate, so it does not break a water fast. Full ingredients, directions and warnings are printed on the pouch and listed on the store’s product page. Contains potassium.
How it fits the protocol
The protocol asks for 5,000–7,000 mg of sodium a day, rising to the top of that range around day 3, when sodium loss peaks and most fasts are abandoned. A full daily dose of the salts gives you 4,000 mg; the remaining 1,000–3,000 mg comes from about ½–1¼ level teaspoons (2.5–7.5 g) of table salt spread through the day. The calculator gives your exact figure for each day.
- Start on day 1, before you feel you need it. Headache, cramp and a racing heart on standing are the signs you are already behind.
- Spread it out. Four servings across the day, never one large dose — a big hit of magnesium in particular sends you to the bathroom.
- Keep going through the refeed. The first two days of eating again are when electrolytes move fastest. See the refeeding guide.
Do it yourself: the same thing from the supermarket
You do not need our product to fast safely, and we would rather you fasted with the right electrolytes than waited for us. A day’s worth, spread across 2–3 litres of water:
- Sodium: about 2 level teaspoons of table salt in total (12.5 g) gives roughly 5,000 mg of sodium — 1 g of sodium is about 2.5 g of salt.
- Potassium: a potassium chloride salt substitute, to about 2,000 mg of potassium across the day. Brands differ a lot, so work it out from the potassium per gram on the label rather than by the spoon.
- Magnesium: a magnesium glycinate (bisglycinate) or malate supplement, 300–400 mg elemental, split morning and evening. Not citrate, oxide or Epsom salts by mouth — they loosen the bowel, and on a fast that costs you the very fluid and salts you are trying to keep.
The salts exist because measuring three powders four times a day for a week is exactly where people get it wrong, usually on day 3. If you can do it reliably, do it.
Check with your GP first if you
- have kidney disease, or have been told to limit potassium or salt;
- take blood-pressure tablets, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARBs or potassium-sparing drugs — potassium and sodium both interact with these;
- have a heart condition, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Do not exceed the daily dose. Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet. Read who should not fast at all before you start.
Questions
When will Fasting Salts be back?
Production is restarting and we will not guess a date. Leave an email address or a UK mobile number on this page and you will be told once, the moment they are back on sale at Cellular Science. Nothing else is sent.
Do I need Fasting Salts to fast?
No. You need the electrolytes, not this product. Table salt, a potassium chloride salt substitute and a magnesium supplement cover the same ground, and this page explains how. The salts exist because measuring three powders four times a day for a week is where people get it wrong.
Where are they sold?
Only at our sister store, Cellular Science (cellularscience.co.uk), which handles payment and delivery. This site takes no payment.
